Abstract

Positron emission tomography (PET-scan) is the first functional imaging evaluation available in oncology. In colorectal neoplasms, it is now considered essential for the diagnosis of the unexplained rise in CEA levels, differential diagnosis between benign and malignant disease (especially for suspected local recurrence of rectal cancer), or preoperative staging in case of complex surgical strategies. Its place in early determining response should be evaluated.
