Abstract

The anticorrosion techniques, coatings, and corrosion inhibitors for above ground storage tanks are presented. Advantages and disadvantages for preventing corrosion in aboveground storage tanks containing petroleum fuels and crude oil are also described. Some of the main technological measures include raining the tank and cleaning tank bottoms from sludge, the maximum filling of an AST with fuels, the dehumidification of the incoming material, and inert gas purging. The coatings which can can be applied to avoid corrosion are organic coatings such as coal tar epoxy and epoxy polyamide, and metallic coatings.
