Abstract
The paper explores the ethos of empowerment in the yeshiva culture of Eastern Europe during the 19th century, emphasizing two primary features: the adversarial classroom atmosphere and peer-teaching practices. The author argues that these features, which differ from contemporary educational practices, could be beneficially adapted to modern teaching strategies to foster student empowerment.
