Abstract

The evolution of a system of mortal reactants which diffused and proliferated was analyzed. The growth rate fluctuations induced by the discrete nature of the agents were shown to allow for an active phase. The model was investigated using field theoretical techniques, numerical simulations and coupling analysis. The model was analyzed as a prototype for many phenomenon which exhibited self-organization.
