N2 - This article deals with a role analysis of a unique organization in the Israeli condominium system - "the building management committee". This is a tenant's self-management organization. The article is based on the findings of research conducted in 36 urban neighbourhoods in Israel, some of which were included in the national Project Renewal. Our findings show that the roles of the building committee, both perceived or in practice, extend beyond the area of the building of residence. The building committee is perceived as a part of the organizational network of the neighbourhood as a whole, and some of its functions refer to the relationship with the neighbourhood and the surrounding social environment. The inclusion of a neighbourhood in Project Renewal influenced the role behaviour and expectations of the building committee. Its impact is particularly strong with regard to those roles of the building committee related to transmitting information and maintaining communication between the building residents and the surrounding social environment.
