An acute, viral, infectious, communicable disease of the central nervous system characterized by central nervous system (CNS) irritation, paralysis, and death. Rabies is a viral infection transmitted in the saliva of infected mammals. There are several tests that are necessary to diagnose rabies before death in humans.
