Abstract
Intel's 82C501 is a multifrequency Manchester encoder/decoder and clock recovery circuit. The main implementation of the 82C501 is a 10-Mhz Ethernet serial interface. An internal clock generator and a digital bit synchronizer working with an equivalent sampling rate of 330 Mhz, enables the 82C501 to work at data rates of 1 Mhz to 14 Mhz with a high jitter tolerance. The 82C501 die size is 127 by 162 mils. It consists of 8000 transistors developed on a 1. 5 micrometer double-metal CMOS process. Power dissipation is less than 0. 5 Watt with a 5 volt supply.
