Abstract

A 5-V CMOS 10-Mb/s transceiver for use as the media access unit (MAU) for the unshielded twisted pair 10Base-T Ethernet is described. The internal differential delay line loop can track incoming 20-MHz ± 40% reference with measured jitter of less than ±0.55 ns. A dual-level rail-to-rail Manchester code line driver is employed. With random data input, the receive and the transmit circuits induce less than ±1.2-ns and ±1.7-ns jitter, respectively.
