Abstract
Yemenite Jewry has preserved both the old and the new Jewish traditions in its heritage, incorporating remnants of ancient Eretz Israel law along with the teachings of Maimonides and the Kabbalah of R. Yitshaq Luria.
The sages of Safed in the sixteenth century, by virtue of their learnedness and the fact that they were from the Holy Land, had deep influence on Jews all over the world, and their teachings became the heritage of universal Jewry and of Yemenite Jews in particular, in the fields of Kabbalah, Shulhan 'Arukh, liturgy and customs.
This book presents a comprehensive and penetrating appraisal of the nature of the influence of the teachings of the center in the Land of Israel – particularly R. Karo and R. Luria – on Yemenite Jewry. The author examines the slow process by which new influences were incorporated into old traditions and customs.
