Abstract
Unlike the story of the Jezreel Valley railway line, which had its influence on Israel collective memory, the Jerusalem-Jaffa railway line did not have a similar impact. The railway line was completed in 1892 and had a marked effect on the development of the two cities, their economy, and their social and cultural characteristics. Apart from its importance to both cities the railway line had implications for the perception of time and was an important economic lever for development of the entire Land of Israel. This article aims to examine the role of the Jerusalem-Jaffa railway line in designing the space and the reality of the Land of Israel during the years 1892-1948, as well as to analyze the historical factors that contributed to the weakening of the status of the Jerusalem-Jaffa railway line, and to its non-inclusion in Israel's collective memory.
