Abstract
This paper by Dr. Leore Sachs-Shmueli and Aviad Goldman delineates the process of sanctification of the Jewish family in the thirteenth century in Castile through the analysis of original kabbalistic images used in rationalizing Jewish ethics related to sexual conduct. It argues that the Castilian Kabbalist, R. Joseph of Hamad an, innovated these images as a response to the social challenges which faced the religious leadership at that period; a process enhancing the Halakhic formal legislation and addressing its lacunas.
