Abstract
Excerpts from an unpublished manuscript written in 1945 in Switzerland by Szilágyi, a member of the Vaadat ha-Ezra ve-ha-Hatzalah in Budapest who reached Switzerland in 1944 on "Kasztner's train" and returned to Hungary after the war. Includes observations and reflections on his experiences during the first 100 days of the Nazi occupation of Hungary (19 March-28 June 1944), focusing on negotiations conducted by the Rescue Committee and the Jewish Council to rescue Hungarian Jewry and the remnants in Slovakia. Dwells on the leading personalities involved in the negotiations - Kasztner, Brand, and Freudiger vs. Eichmann and Wisliceny, their actions, and the response of the Jewish people in the free world to the rescue efforts in Hungary.
