Abstract
With the help of theoretical insights that grow a fruitful contemporary discourse, centered on the criticism of secularism as a sociological thesis and historical narrative, Beyond Secularism: Traditionalism and the Criticism of Secularism in Israel offers an original framework for re-examining the concepts of "Jewish identity", "tradition", "modernity" and "secularism" in the Israeli context. The book presents an epistemological framework that does not respond to binary divisions such as religious/secular, or traditional/modern. This epistemology, which the author calls "traditionalism", reveals the suppressed and denied face of the secular Jewish identity in Israel; And above all, it reveals the dependence of secularism on the state religion, the inextricable connection between nationalism and religion, and the denial of the ethnic-sectarian component in the secular identity structure. In conclusion, the paradigm of traditionalism offers a new critical point of view and a fruitful and fascinating alternative for examining Israeli society and its sociology
