Abstract

Aharon Shemesh, z"l, devoted a fascinating study and detailed discussion to "things that have no measure" - Mishnah,
Pe'ah 1, 1 in the teachings of the Tannaim. He compared them with the sectarian law in the Judean Desert, and raised the possibility that the mitzvot that had a measure in the Qumran halakhic tradition became "things that have no measure" in the Torah of Chazal. 1 My study in this article focuses on one of these things that have no measure, the mitzvot of Pe'ah, and the connection that has emerged between it and the laws of Hanukkah in the Babylonian, Shabbat 23 a. A connection between the laws of Hanukkah and the laws of Zeraim is not obvious, but it is worth noting that in two additional issues of Hanukkah in the Babylonian Shabbat, located in the Babylonian Shabbat immediately before the issue to be discussed here, conditional material from Zeraim laws is presented during the discussion, while comparing it to the laws of Hanukkah, or as part of a development of the discussion of Hanukkah matters.2 The issue to be discussed in this article is therefore the third example in the series of issues regarding Hanukkah in the Babylonian Shabbat that presents material from Zeraim order.
