Abstract
בתקופת הברזל, בתהליך הדרגתי, הופכת ירושלים לעיר מרכזית עבור אזורים גדולים בהרבה, ובסופו של התהליך גם למקום בעל חשיבות החורגת מסביבותיה הגאוגרפיים של העיר. למעשה, הצעדים הראשונים, וכנראה גם המשמעותיים ביותר שעשתה ירושלים לעבר המעמד הבינלאומי שיש לה כיום, כאשר תשומת הלב העולמית מופנית אליה וכל פעולה המתבצעת בה נבחנת בקפידה, נצעדו בתקופת הברזל.
