Abstract
Treating a person with dementia lead us to deal with challenging behaviors that demand complicated and difficult responses. Caregivers at home and in care facilities have pharmacological treatment solutions which mostly have limited efficacy and problematic side effects. Studies show that non-pharmacological interventions can benefit in reducing agitation among people with dementia and that music specifically can be used as an intervention that helps to deal with resistance to care. Music facilitates nonverbal communication and helps to improve the ability of the caregiver to provide the best care in a safe manner. Individualized music also contributes and helps to gain a sense of self identity among people with dementia.
