Abstract
This article presents a study on the role of information sources in the coping strategies of the ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) Jewish community during the COVID-19 pandemic in Israel. The study compares the use of digital versus traditional information platforms and examines the relationship between coping with COVID-19 and factors such as Community Sense of Coherence (C-SOC), Internet usage, and demographic variables. Using an online survey, the study collected responses from 212 ultra-Orthodox participants who had Internet access, of which 47.2% were women and 52.8% were men, with a mean age of 37.66 (SD = 12.60). The findings suggest that utilizing digital information sources is associated with better emotional and mental coping levels during the pandemic than using traditional sources. Moreover, the study highlights that the more the Internet is used for information or social needs, the more helpful digital sources are for emotional and cognitive coping. Conversely, the more the ultra-Orthodox society felt that their community (C-SOC) was significant, the better their coping with the pandemic utilizing traditional sources. This study contributes a unique perspective to the coping strategies of ultra-Orthodox society during a global crisis and underscores the importance of providing reliable and timely digital information while respecting their cultural and religious values.
