Abstract
Examines the image of Holocaust heroines in the public collective memory in various countries as reflected in research, in literature, in art, and in films, comparing the image with the actual reality of their deeds. Describes how the images slowly replaced reality. In fact, realism became just one factor among many (such as politics, patriotism, extensive public exposure in a particular country, or just chance) in the shaping of the image of women in the Holocaust by publishers and producers with vested interests in the various spheres of the creative arts.
