Abstract

Bibliometric and Scientometric research is a field of study that focuses on the quantitative analysis of academic literature, scientific publishing processes, and various metrics for evaluating research activity and its impact. This article examines Israel's contribution to this field of research. Using two major databases – Scopus and OpenAlex – a total of 348 unique publications authored by 324 researchers with an Israeli affiliation up to the end of 2024 were retrieved and analyzed. The analysis of the publications included an examination of research output and publication outlets, identification of leading researchers and institutions, and an investigation of key research topics, all while comparing Israeli data to global trends. The findings highlight pronounced development in Israel’s bibliometric and scientometric research, particularly since the 2010s, with growth surpassing global trends in recent years. The publications are largely concentrated in the leading journal of the field, Scientometrics, and demonstrate considerable diversity in the identities and affiliations of the contributing researchers, as well as in the topics discussed. Together, the results underscore Israel's prominent role in the field of bibliometrics and scientometrics on the international stage and suggest a promising potential for further advancement in this area of research.
