Abstract

Relational psychoanalysis describes the human psyche as an amalgam of self-states which, not unlike groups and societies, exist in a myriad of relationships of conflict, domination, dissociation and exclusion, but also of mutual recognition and mutually created movement. The paper uses this perspective to shed light on the processes Israeli society has been undergoing over the past two years as well as to characterize the role of the therapist,in particular, and the mental health community in general, in coping with these processes.
