Abstract
"המונח 'קנס' הוא מונח השגור גם בעברית המודרנית, ומשמעו המקובל הוא 'עונש כספי'. אך האם זו בהכרח משמעותו של המונח בספרות התלמודית? המטרה הראשונית שהוצבה בחיבור זה היא בירור המונחים התלמודיים 'קנס' ו'דיני קנסות', בירור שמסקנתו היא ש'קנס' אינו בהכרח 'עונש כספי', ומבירור זה להבין את מערכת הדינים המיוחדת הקשורה למונחים אלה, כפי שעוצבה בספרות חז"ל" (הכריכה האחורית).
