After a brief description of the aid and rescue efforts of the parachutists sent from Israel to Eastern Europe in 1943-44, discusses commemoration in Israel of their courageous acts. From the mid-1940s their activities were lauded and during the 1950s the parachutists became legendary heroes. Commemoration from the 1950s-90s included cultural activities and literary works, as well as activities and study in schools and youth movements.
