Abstract

Propene has been found to be a major product of the acid catalysed decomposition of [(H2O)5CrIII-C(CH3) 2OH]2+. It is proposed that this complex isomerizes via a β-hydride shift step to form [(H2O)5CrIII-CH2CH(CH 3)OH]2+ which decomposes via β-hydroxide elimination.
