Incumbent of the Yekutiel and Hannah Klein Chair in the History of the Modern Rabbinate in Europe

A former army intelligence officer, and later a director of a community center in Ramla. Married, father of four, grandfather of four. Lives in Givat Zeev.

Research:

A political, social and cultural history of the Jews in the Middle East in the modern era.

Prof. Harel published seven books, articles in the press, and dozens of research papers about the Jewish communities in Syria, Iraq, Kurdistan, Yemen, Bukhara, Greece, Lebanon. Egypt, Jerusalem and the Ottoman Empire.

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
