About Me

Classical guitar performer, Intercultural and interreligious musical contact.

Dr. Uri Yaakov joined the faculty of the Department of Music at Bar-Ilan University in 2023. His research focuses on a broad range of topics in musicology, with particular emphasis on medieval music. Among other subjects, he studies the music associated with the Crusading enterprise, interreligious musical encounters, the transmission of music across distances, the development of musical notation, text–music relations, computational approaches to melodic analysis, and the classical guitar repertoire of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

He completed his undergraduate (2004–2008) and master’s (2008–2010) degrees in classical guitar performance—his primary instrument to this day—at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. His active engagement in music research, including teaching in the field, began at a later stage during his master’s studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which focused on the repertoire for plucked instruments in Renaissance Spain (2012–2015). He subsequently completed his PhD at the same institution on music produced and documented in the context of the Crusades (2015–2021). During his doctoral studies, he participated in a student exchange program at Yale University in the United States. He carried out postdoctoral research first at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2021–2022) and subsequently at the University of Western Ontario in Canada (2022–2023).
