About Me

Tzafrir Barzilay is a senior lecturer of medieval history in the Department of History at Bar Ilan University.  He is interested in the social history of minorities, environmental and geographical factors, and religious movements in medieval Europe. He is currently investigating religious and quotidian practices pertaining to water in Jewish and Christian life in High and Late medieval Europe. He is the author of of Poisoned Wells: Accusation, Persecution and Minorities in Medieval Europe, 1321-1422 (Philadelphia, 2022) and coeditor, with Elisheva Baumgarten and Eyal Levinson, of Jewish Daily Life in Medieval Northern Europe, 1000-1350: A Sourcebook (Kalamazoo, 2022).

- Environmental history and historical geography (around subjects related to water) .

- History of everyday life.

- Jewish-Christian relation and interactions.

- History of power, violence, institutions and governance.

- History of the medieval Church.
