About Me

Dr. Svetlana Dachkovsky is a lecturer in the Department of English Literature and Linguistics, Bar-Ilan University. She taught at Gordon College of Education, Israel, and did postdoctoral research at the Sign Language Laboratory at the University of Haifa. Her research specializes in the prosody of sign languages, with an emphasis on the interaction of prosody with grammar and emotion. Using insights from general linguistics, sign language linguistics, and gesture research, she investigates the form and role of facial expressions and head movements. Dr. Dachkovsky's dissertation at the University of Haifa investigated the role of prosody in grammatical development, in particular in the emergence of relative clause structures in a young sign language: Israeli Sign Language.
