Sivan Shlomo-Agon is an Associate Professor at Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Law. Her work lies at the intersection of public international law, international economic law, international organizations and global governance, international courts and adjudication, and international legal theory, drawing on doctrinal, theoretical, and empirical methods. Her research engages questions of time and international law — its reactivity and proactivity, its short- and long-term horizons, and its capacity to keep pace with accelerating change, across emerging frontiers such as artificial intelligence and outer space. She also examines the effectiveness and legitimacy of international courts and organizations, with particular attention to the World Trade Organization’s dispute settlement system, the subject of her book International Adjudication on Trial(Oxford University Press), and how international law and institutions contend with cross-sectoral global challenges, like pandemics and the climate crisis, in a polycentric international legal order.
Her scholarship has appeared in leading academic journals, including the Modern Law Review, the American Journal of International Law, the European Journal of International Law, and the Leiden Journal of International Law, and has been recognized with various awards including the Fattal Prize for Excellence in Legal Research and the S.Z. Cheshin Young Scholar Prize. She has held visiting positions at universities across Europe and the United States, including New York University, where she was an Emile Noël Fellow. She holds a Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and LL.M. degrees from Northwestern University and Tel Aviv University.
