The principal theme of most of my research is the Palestinian Talmud. My studies on this work deal with three main aspects of this Talmud: textual tradition, exegesis, and redaction. The most important of these studies is my most recent book, The Terminology of the Yerushalmi: The Principal Terms, and I am currently working on a companion volume which will address those terms not included in the first volume. An additional area of my research is the legal and historical analysis of rabbinic halakhah, particularly during the amoraic and post-amoraic periods. Here I focus primarily on the modes of legal thought and exegesis in rabbinic literature. My studies of the history of rabbinic legal thought deal, inter alia, with the history of rabbinic conceptualization, as well as with various aspects of the relationship between rabbinic halakhah and Roman law.
