About Me

J. Rubin studied for his BA, MA and PhD in the Hebrew University, focusing on medieval history and, in particular, history of the crusades and the Kingdom of Jerusalem. He received his PhD in History in 2012, following which he spent one year as a Yad Hanadiv postdoctoral fellow at the Warburg Institute, London (2012-2013), and two additional one-year postdoctoral periods in Israel, one at the Open University (2013-2014) and one at the Tel Aviv University (2014-2015). His research focuses on Outremer's cultural and intellectual history, exploring questions such as the quality and originality of the knowledge developed by the Franks of the Latin East in fields such theology and geography and the exchanges of such knowledge between the different groups which inhabited the medieval Levant. He is also interested in pilgrimage literature.
