About Me

Elyashiv Cherlow is a researcher of early rabbinic literature and the history of Jewish law. He completed his Ph.D. at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2024). His dissertation: ‘The Development of the Tannaitic Laws of Stolen and Lost Property’ explored the development of the Jewish civil law during the Tannaitic era under Roman rule. His M.A. focused on the redaction of the Palestinian Talmud. His publications, deal mainly with early rabbinic manuscripts, appeared in the Jewish Quarterly Review and Journal for Semitic Studies, among others. His ongoing research delves into the relationship between Jewish and Roman law. As a Starr Fellow, he will analyze Mishnah Tractate Neziqin to understand how Jewish law developed under Roman rule.
