About Me

Elise S. Brezis is the director of the Aharon Meir Center for Banking at the Department of economics at Bar-Ilan University. From 1999 to 2003, she served as the head of the Statistics division at the Research Department in the Bank of Israel and she has also served as the President of the Israeli Association for the Study of European Integration. Prof. Brezis holds a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT (1989). She has published articles in leading journals, such as the American Economic Review and the European Economic Review. She has been asked to write the entry on ‘elites' in the most prestigious economic encyclopedia: The New Palgrave. She has written several articles with the Nobel Prize Laureate, Paul Krugman and has developed the theory of Leapfrogging. She has edited with Peter Temin a book on ‘Elites, Minorities and Economic Growth'. She is on the Editorial board of Cliometrica.
