About Me

Elda Weizman, is Professor Emerita at Bar Ilan University, where she taught cross-cultural pragmatics and the theory of translation at the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies. Her research interests, anchored in socio-pragmatics, focus on the interpretation of indirectness in the electronic media in a cross-cultural perspective.

She further conducted, with Prof. Lea Kozminsky, a research on the pragmatics of requests in self advocacy by students with learning disabilities, anchored in her previous work on indirect requests. Prof. Weizman is currently conducting a comparative corpus-based cross-cultural research on irony in on-line commenting and op-eds. She has recently received a 3-year Gif grant on The construction of ordinariness in mediated public talk".
