About Me

Dr. Segal holds a PhD in Talmud from Bar-Ilan University. Her doctoral thesis dealt with the 'use of prenuptial agreements as a tool for protecting women during and after marriage throughout the generations.'

Lecturer at the School of Basic Studies in Judaism, teaching and research areas: family law in Jewish law, halakhic research, religion and state.

In addition to her academic work, she is certified as a rabbinical litigator, has represented women who have been refused a get and agunot in rabbinical courts, advises couples on the subject of prenuptial agreements to prevent the refusal of a get and is active in various frameworks to promote solutions to prevent the refusal of a get and agunot.

Graduate of the 'Talmudi-Ayoni Institute' and the 'Halekta' program - a six-year program for higher halakhic studies in Matan. Member of the Beit Hillel Rabbinical and Rabbinical Organization - attentive rabbinical leadership, and a member of the organization's board. Serves as rabbi of a regional school in Jerusalem.

Courses taught at the School of Basic Jewish Studies emphasize the relevance of family law in Hebrew law to the lives of Jewish citizens in the State of Israel. Developments in marriage and divorce law are examined, from ancient biblical and Talmudic sources through case law, question and answer literature, and rabbinical rulings from recent decades, with special emphasis on the place of regulations, customs, and decrees in the process of developing necessary halachic changes.

The content taught in the courses is found in public and media discourse in the State of Israel today. (For example: the possibility of civil marriage in Israel, the permission of a hundred rabbis to marry another wife, refusal to get a divorce, the problem of aginut, the bastards, and more), Dr. Segal incorporates into her teaching the analysis of journalistic texts, critical viewing of videos and articles of various types, and discussions regarding the current questions that arise from the study.

Since Dr. Segal claims to be a rabbi by profession, she brings to the classroom her professional experience and shares with the students insights from the field, stories of cases in which she represented women who were refused a get and agunut in the rabbinical courts, and from her experience as a social activist: her involvement in roundtables attended by dayanim, judges, rabbis and activists in the field, in Knesset committees, and more.
