Description

The APOe4 gene is one of the most significant risk factors for Alzheimer's disease. The protein encoded by this gene is expressed primarily in cells called astrocytes, which make up about half of all brain cells. In studies on mice, researchers found that disabling the gene reduced nerve cell death and slowed cognitive decline.
